St Matthew's Wellness Centre in Prudhoe was founded in 2025 by Kelly Norman and her husband Carl with a simple goal: to create a welcoming space dedicated to health, wellbeing and community. From the very beginning, we've focused on helping people of all ages and abilities live a healthier, more balanced life.
Today, St Matthew's is a community wellness and physiotherapy centre serving Prudhoe, Northumberland and the wider Tyne Valley. Housed in a beautifully renovated stone reading room, we bring together a blend of therapies, fitness sessions and wellbeing support under one roof.
Our centre offers a safe, inclusive space for everyone. Whether you're looking to reduce stress, improve mobility, recover from injury, connect with others or care for your mental and physical health, St Matthew's provides caring, professional support in a calm and welcoming environment.
With a community-first approach, our newly renovated Prudhoe centre is committed to helping local people feel better, move better and live well.
Our journey began with a vision: to bring my already well-established physiotherapy practice together with other professional therapies, fitness and wellness activities all under one roof - a calm, supportive environment where people can heal, grow and thrive. I wanted St Matthew's to be a peaceful home for many different health and wellbeing professionals, as well as a welcoming place for local groups to hold their sessions.
Today, we continue to build on that vision, offering a range of physiotherapy, classes and wellbeing services alongside flexible spaces to hire for groups, workshops, therapy and community events - all with the same commitment to care, professionalism and personal attention that started it all.
Combining my dream with Carl's skill as a joiner, we watched the building and its outside space transform from dilapidated to the wellness haven you see today.
Our name pays homage to the beautiful building we call our work home. St Matthew's is named after Matthew Liddell, husband of Susannah, who commissioned the build in 1882. Originally a reading room, the building served the people of Prudhoe then much as we hope to now - and we remain as committed to our community today as the Liddells were back in the 19th century.
The space is constantly evolving in line with the needs of our patrons. We look forward to welcoming you to St Matt's soon, so you can experience this place for yourself - a place where good things happen.
Whether you're booking a class or just curious, the centre team is happy to help.
